Kin Connection trip for Gabriella

 Gabby arriving home

Gabby's Kin Connection trip from Darwin to Nhulunbuy/Yirrkala in March 2011
ICV Volunteer, Sally, came all the way from Tassie!

The MJD Foundation's KIN CONNECTION program is an important program which keeps families connected when a person living with MJD can no longer be cared for at home.

Currently in NE Arnhemland there are no permanent residential care facilities, so if someone needs to be cared for in a permanent residential care setting, they must go to Darwin.

The separation from family and community has a large impact on social and emotional wellbeing, and the MJD Foundation is meeting this gap in service by aiming to provide 2-3 trips per annum for the individual in care to go home and visit their family.

Where possible we are partnering with Indigenous Community Volunteers who provide escorts and a carer for the week. The NT Dept of Health also work closely with the MJDF to facilitate and help plan these trips.
