Stephanies Kinconnect

Steph kinconnect - carIn June 2016, MJDF's Desireé LaGrappe and volunteer Karen Munro supported Stephanie Nganjmirra to go back to her country in Oenpelli.

The ladies drove out from Darwin in the MJDF 4WD.

Stephanie enjoyed being able to sit up high and see out the front thanks to the Turny seat.

Many laughs and stories were told on the journey and Desireé negotiated Cahill's Crossing without running over any sunbathing crocs, although there were a few crocs in the water waiting for Barra.

Stephanie stayed with family each evening with the MJDF team checking in on her.

During the day they took trips out to places that Stephanie used to visit and she told them lots of stories about her family and adventures that took place over the years.

Stephanie spent some time in the community and caught up with family and friends most days at the local shop.

Another day they drove out to visit and place some flowers on her late husband's grave.

Stephanie visited the local arts centre where MJDF purchased a painting by her brother for the Darwin office. This was followed by a trip to the local waterfall/ swimming hole.

Steph kinconnect - Karen and UnaKaren our volunteer from Queensland used to live in Darwin and care for Stephanie in previous years, she had a great time and her and Stephanie enjoyed reminiscing about old times spent in Darwin.

Thanks to donations from our wonderful individual donors for enabling this trip to happen.

These Kin Connect trips are so important to people living with MJD who are living in supported accommodation.

MJDF is hopeful that in the future, these trips will be able to be included in NDIS individual plans.
