Darwin office NadiaTony Wurramarrba AO, one of the MJDF's board members and Chairperson of the Anindilyakwa Land Council from Groote Eylandt presented a passionate and heartfelt speech, demonstrating his continued support of the MJDF. The Anindilyakwa Land Council helped start the MJDF in 2008 , due to the devastating impact of Machado Joseph Disease on their people, and it continues to provide support today. Tony explained that at the beginning in 2008, many people on Groote Eylandt believed they were the only people in the world with MJD. Since then Tony and his people have learnt about many other communities whose people have this disease in Ngukurr, Elcho Island, Gunbalanya, Yirrkala and Central Australia. There are also Aboriginal people in North QLD with MJD. Tony noted the importance of the opening of the new office because of the high prevalence of MJD in these other communities and the need for the MJD Foundation's services to be delivered across the NT. He also stressed how important it was for both the Federal and NT Governments to support the MJD Foundation as we are finding more and more families with MJD throughout our Territory and beyond.Darwin office Tony
